Food we Ordered

Beef Rendang – $5

The beef rendang exceeded all expectations, its melt-in-your-mouth tenderness complemented perfectly by the aromatic rempah spices. Please try order this dish to try.

Ayam Gulai – $5

Their signature Ayam Gulai, it was alright. An Indonesian style chicken curry, not too spicy. I preferred the Opor.

Ayam Bakar Lemak Opor – $5

The Ayam Bakar Lemak Opor was on point. Savoury and spicy flavourful gravy which paired amazingly well with the white rice. I was drinking it by the spoonful at one point.

Tahu Telor – $8.50

I feel that this is a must order, crispy outside yet soft tahu pieces inside doused on a sweet sauce and topped with crunchy vegetables and peanuts. The different crunch and textures make this a very enjoyable dish

Sotong Masak Hitam – $5

Sotong Masak Hitam turned out slightly tough and chewy, overshadowing the dish’s potential. It’s a choice to consider cautiously, especially if the distinctive seafood taste isn’t quite your preference.

Sambal Goreng – $4.50

Sambal Goreng, an essential companion to any Nasi Padang, proved to be highly recommended with its mixture of flavors. A must-try side dish to order.

Omelette – $9

Little bit pricey at $3 per piece in my opinion but it’s thick and fluffy. Lots of aromatics like onion, garlic and chillis inside. I still order it every time.

Bagedil – $4.50

Bagedil, the humble potato patty, reveals its versatility when you try dipping it in the curries and mixing it with the rice. Its crispy exterior and tender interior make it an essential addition.

Sambal Tempeh Ikan Bilis Kachang – $5

Sambal Tempeh with ikan bilis was standard, with the ikan bilis proving a bit too tough for my liking, making this particular dish a skippable option in my opinion.

Sambal Belado Merah – $1

Sambal Belado lacked spiciness which I was anticipating. And left me yearning for a more intense and pungent chili kick.

Soup Bakso Ikan – $3.50

Soup Bakso emerges as a kid-friendly or a suitable option for those with a milder spice tolerance, offering a savory and flavorful broth. Its gentle flavors make it a satisfying choice for a safe choice for the uninitiated.

Teh Tarik – $1.50

Teh Tarik, with its expertly pulled milk and fragrant tea, stood out as the ideal accompaniment to cleanse the palate after all the heavy flavorful spices, offering a comforting conclusion to the meal. I’ve had lots of bad teh tariks so trust me, this is a must order. It is abit too sweet for some people so you might want to tell them kurang manis when ordering.

Is Rumah Makan Minang Worth it?

Overall, while slightly pricier than your average Nasi Padang establishment, the exquisite taste and delightful array of dishes make every penny worthwhile. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with beautiful aromas and sights. With a plethora of choices to pick and choose from, you’re given the opportunity to create a personalized feast that matches your palate. They also have a second floor which provides ample seating. And let’s not forget the pièce de résistance – their Teh Tarik drink, a sweet companion to wash down the flavors and complete the experience. Rumah Makan Minang isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a destination where taste & tradition intertwine, leaving you with cravings that will linger long after the last bite.
